Born in Scotland, Young moved to Australia with his family as a teenager, and became a naturalised citizen. Co-founded The Easybeats in Australia and teamed up with Harry Vanda, writing songs. After the demise of The Easybeats, Vanda and Young formed a production company and were responsible for breaking AC/DC onto the world stage. His younger brothers, Angus and Malcolm were members of that band. After retiring from the music industry in the late 1990s, Young resided mainly in Portugal with his family till his death on October 22.

Three Songs by John Lennon and The Beatles:

4.   The Beatles: Rain (John Lennon / Paul McCartney)
45 rpm single bw Paperback Writer: Capitol Records Canada 5651
Liverpool UK
John Lennon – lead and backing vocals, rhythm guitar
Paul McCartney – backing vocals, bass
George Harrison – backing vocals, lead guitar
Ringo Starr – drums, tambourine
Produced by George Martin 1966
Recorded in London at EMI Studios by Geoff Emerick, April 1966

My copy was purchased from a little mom and pop record shop in a small strip mall at Yonge and Cummer streets in Willowdale not far from my junior high school, RJ Lang when I was in grade 8.

The last verse of "Rain" includes backwards vocals, the first use of this technique on a record. (The hit novelty song "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! ", where side B is side A played backwards, was released later that year of 1966).

The inspiration for "Rain" is agreed on by Neil Aspinall, the Beatles' roadie, and John Lennon. They both described the band's arrival in Sydney, Australia, marked by rain and poor weather. Lennon said, "I've never seen rain as hard as that.”

5.   The Beatles: Revolution (John Lennon / Paul McCartney)
45 single bw Hey Jude: Apple Records 2276
Liverpool UK
John Lennon: guitar, vocal, scream, handclaps
George Harrison: lead guitar, bg vocal
Paul McCartney: bass, Hammond organ, bg vocal
Ringo Starr: drums, handclaps
Nicky Hopkins: electric piano
Produced by George Martin 1968
Recorded at Abby Road Studios, London

From my original 45 bw Hey Jude. Can’t remember where I bought it from, but probably Sam’s downtown.

Revolution" later appeared on the 1970 US compilation album Hey Jude, the first time the song was issued in stereo. Lennon disliked the stereo mix, saying in a 1974 interview that the mono mix of "Revolution" was a "heavy record" but "then they made it into a piece of ice cream!

6.   The Beatles: I Should Have Known Better (John Lennon / Paul McCartney)
A Hard Day’s Night Soundtrack: United Artists Records UAL 3366
Liverpool UK
John Lennon - double-tracked vocal, acoustic rhythm guitar, harmonica
Paul McCartney - bass
George Harrison - twelve-string lead guitar
Ringo Starr - drums
Produced by George Martin 1964
Recorded at Abby Road EMI Studio 2, London UK by Norman Smith, Feb 25, 1964

In January 1964, during a three-week engagement at the Olympia Theatre in Paris, the Beatles first became aware of American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan, and after acquiring a copy of his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, they began playing it continuously. Lennon alludes to the fact that Dylan’s lyrics rubbed off on him, upping the ante, forcing John and Paul to write more serious minded songs.

7.   Little Eva: Keep Your Hands Off My Baby (Goffin / King)
45 single bw Where Do I go?: Dimension Recoprds 1003
Brooklyn NY
Produced by Gerry Goffin 1962

Eva Narcissus Boyd b. June 29, 1943 Belhaven, NC - April 10, 2003 (aged 59) Kinston NC

As a teenager, she worked as a maid and earned extra money as a babysitter for songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin. It is often claimed that Goffin and King were amused by Boyd's particular dancing style, so they wrote "The Loco-Motion" for her and had her record it as a demo (the record was intended for Dee Dee Sharp). The song reached #1 in the United States in 1962. It sold over one million copies.

"Keep Your Hands Off My Baby" went to Number 12 on the Billboard Chart for Little Eva. The most she was ever paid was $50/wk since all the royalties went to the producer and the songwriters.

The Beatles recorded the song for the BBC radio show Saturday Club on 22 January 1963, which was first broadcast four days later. They also performed it in the following month on their first British tour. It was released on their album, Live at the BBC, in 1994.

8.   The Four Preps: Big Man (Bruce Bellard / Glenn Larson)
45 rpm single bw Stop, Baby: Capitol Records F3960
Los Angeles CA
Bruce Belland, lead vocals

Produced 1958

Glen Larson, baritone (born Glen Albert Larson January 3, 1937 Los Angeles, California; d November 14, 2014)

The four original members were students at Hollywood High School and were signed to a recording contract by Capitol Records, after one of Capitol's executives saw them at a talent show at that school in 1956. All four original members went on to become big time producers of tv, movies and records. Glen Larson was the creator of the original Battlestar Gallactica series featuring Lorne Green as Adama.

He went on to play blues founder, WC Handy in a biopic, playing the young WC. In 1962, Preston joined Little Richard's band as an organist, and it was while performing in Hamburg that he met the Beatles.

In 1969, when the Beatles were about to break up while recording the last album they released, Let It Be (they would later record Abbey Road, which was released prior to Let It Be). George Harrison, a friend of Preston, had quit, walked out of the studio and gone to a Ray Charles concert in London, where Preston was playing organ. Harrison brought Preston back to the studio, where his keen musicianship and gregarious personality temporarily calmed the tension.

"Outa-Space" also won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance of 1972.
In the 90's Intel Corporation used the song to promote their MMX-enabled Pentium processors.
