And Now for The Particulars:

Hour One

1.   The Beatles: I'll Get You (Lennon / McCartney)
bw She Loves You: Capitol Records Canada 72125
Liverpool UK
John Lennon - lead vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica
Paul McCartney - lead vocals, bass
George Harrison - harmony vocal, electric guitar
Ringo Starr - drums
Produced by George Martin, 1963
Recorded on 1 July 1963 at Abby Road EMI Studios, London

Actually, this song was the B-side for two Beatles' singles: She Loves You and it's German counterpart, Sie Liebt Dich. On of the few Beatles songs without a lead guitar solo in it. It didn't appear on a Beatles album until the Rarities compilation of mostly B-sides was released in 1978.

bw Can't You See That She's Mine: Capitol Records Canada 72163
London UK
Dave Clark: drums
Rick Huxley: bass
Lenny Davidson: guitar
Mike Smith: organ, vocal
Dennis Payton: sax
Produced by Adrian Clark, 1964

This sounds like a totally ripped off version of Twist & Shout. The A Side was the fourth major hit for the DC5 in 1964 after Glad All Over, Bits and Pieces and Do You Love Me?

3.   The Trashmen: A-Bone (Larry LaPole)
bw Bird Dance Beat: Apex Records76904

Bob Reed, bass
Steve Wahrer, drums, bird vocals
Produced by George Garrett - 1964
Recorded by Tom Jung

From Minniapolis, Minnesota active years 1962-67. Started out as Jim Thaxter & the Travelers. After a trip to California 1962, The group played surf rock which included elements from garage rock. Big lead guitar-lead songs mixed with novelty numbers. The Trashmen's biggest hit was 1963's "Surfin' Bird", which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the later part of that year. Bird Dance Beat was the follow up to it.

Thunder Bay, ON

This band was actually known as The Plague, in Thunder Bay, who went on to record a few singles. Lyn McEachern was trying to capitalize in on a fellow Thunder Bay lad named Bobby Curtola. Don Grashey was an enterpreneur up there, did production for bands as far away as Winnipeg and ran a few of his own labels. The band started as 'Donny B and the Bonnvilles, went to 'The Plague', then 'The Lexington Avenue' and 'The Jarvis Street Revue'.

At the time, the Guess Who were one of the formost Canadian bands successfully recording Mercybeat songs. This is a great example of that. The band were still not the Guess Who yet, but the record was credited to Guess Who? as a promotion gimick. After a month, they announced the prank but radio programmers paid no heed: they continued calling them The Guess Who so they changed their name.
