After the British invasion hit North America, The Beachboys went back into the studio with a brand new bunch of Brian Wilson composed songs including “I Get Around”, “Wendy” and “All Summer Long”. Interestingly, both I Get Around and All Summer Long were only mixed in Mono while the rest of the album was in Stereo. The song was also featured in the 1973 film American Graffiti during the closing credits.

Frederick Anthony Picariello Jr. b. December 4, 1936 Revere, Mass

Well known for performing the theme song of  Dick Clark's TV show “Where the Action Is”, Cannon made his recording debut as a singer in 1958, caught up in the rock n roll fever of the time. He played Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on Jan 25, 1960 on a package tour that included Frankie Avalon. His third record,  "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans", became a huge hit. In 1962 he had another huge hit with Palisades Park which was actually the B Side of the single which was mistakenly played by a lone Michigan DJ. He’s still out there performing.

This song was based on a poem written by John Sebastian’s brother Mark when he was only 15 yrs old. Steve Boone came up with the middle eight, which John thought sounded like the Gershwin composition "An American in Paris," where the orchestra implies the sound of traffic and city noises. This gave him the idea of incorporating car horns and other city ambiance into the track. The car horn at the beginning comes from a Volkswagen Beetle!

Most likely the most recorded Canadian musician of all times! Super guitarist, Edwards turned professional when he was still in his mid-teens. By the time he was 21 he had amassed a great portfolio of recorded works, playing on recordings, jingles and in television studio bands. has been a featured guitarist with Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Henry Mancini, Anne Murray, Paul Anka, and Kenny Rogers. He’s been credited with having performed on over 1000 TV shows and many motion pictures. Truly one of the unsung heroes of Canadian recorded music. His personal recorded output is minimal so enjoy.

Paul Whaley: drums
Leigh Stephens: guitar
Dickie Peterson: vocals, bass
Produced by Abe Kesh (Eric Albronda), 1968
Recorded by John MacQuarrie at Amigo Studios, Hollywood, 1967

Known as ‘The Loudest Band In The World’. "Blue Cheer" was the name of a variety of LSD made by chemist and Grateful Dead patron Owsley Stanley although the name existed earlier, as the name of a well known laundry detergent. Drummer Whaley was the band’s drummer from 1967 when it was reduced from a 5 man band to a power trio. Summertime Blues was their only charted song. Rumor has it that they were so loud, they were forced to record outdoors. The band had a fortress of amps that could turn the air into cottage cheese! Some reports claimed that while recording their second album, outdoors on San Francisco’s pier 57, they were so loud that people on boats 14 kms away were complaining about the sound. RIP Paul Gene Whaley (b. Winters CA Jan 14, 1947 / d. Regensburg GM Jan 28, 2019)

Patrick Henry Travers b. Apr 12, 1954 Toronto

One of Toronto’s best secrets, Travers became a guitar god to many heavy metal bands in the 70s. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, for one, has always admired Travers’ ability. He’s released 3 dozen albums since his vinyl debut in 1976, the latest being Retro Rocket in 2015. Travers became a Hendrix fan after seeing him perform in Ottawa when he was only 12. He was noticed by Ronnie Hawkins who recruited him for one of his bands before going solo. His career really got a boost when he was opening up for Rush on their A Farewell To Kings “Drive til You Die” tour in 1977.

After opening for Huey Lewis & The News at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1986 they signed with Capitol Records of Canada and were nominated for a 1989 Juno Award. They opened for Heart on the 1988 UK tour and imploded from a heavy workload and feeling like they were going nowhere but down.

"Father of the Texas Blues"

He was a founder of the Texas blues sound and an important influence on other blues singers and guitarists, including Lead Belly and Lightnin' Hopkins. His song" Matchbox Blues" was recorded by the Beatles in 1964, and as a rockabilly version by Carl Perkins who did not credit Jefferson on his 1955 recording. Fellow blues artist B.B. King credited Jefferson as one of his biggest musical influences, next to Lonnie Johnson, Louis Jordan and T-Bone Walker. His songs have been covered by Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Peter Paul and Mary, Counting Crows and Phish.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame selected Jefferson's 1927 recording of "Matchbox Blues" as one of the 500 songs that shaped rock and roll.

King, Bobby Bland, Buddy Guy and Doug Kershaw. They were asked to perform at The Toronto Rock and Roll Revival in September 1969, headlined by Little Richard, Alice Cooper, The Doors and The Plastic Ono Band.
