Paul McCartney: lead vocal, bass guitar
George Harrison: 12-string lead guitar
Ringo Starr: drums
Produced by George Martin, 1964

On Twitter recently, someone asked: “What was the first song that made you fall in love?” I know that it was If I Fell. I was 11, it was THE BEATLES!!! but it had this affect on me that made me fall in love with falling in love.

2.   Foxrun Band: Untouchable Heart
(Timothy Chipman)
Embrace: Ariel Records: ARLP-116
Toronto, ON
James Paul Cassar: bass
Peter Cassar: drums
Timothy Chipman: guitar, keys, vocals
Produced by Foxrun, 1981
Recorded by G Warecki & Fred Petersen at Kinck Sound, Toronto

Ariel Records was a label owned by band members James Paul Cassar, Peter Cassar and Timothy Chipman. The Foxrun Band appears to have been a side project to their main band, Darkstar, which released two albums and six singles during the 1977-1981 period. Darkstar was a Toronto three-piece who released an independent single in 1977 called 'Holy Roller'. Their debut album was 'Into The Heartland' in 1978 on their own Ariel Records. Their sophomore release was 1980's 'Escape Routines'.

The first Foxrun Band album You're Invited came out 1979 and featured Margo Davidson on sax.

Two songs about heaven and hell, the first by a Psychedelic trio from New England who’ve been active more than a decade and have two vinyl albums available. The wind tells me that they are currently working on a newer one.

5.   Suckerpunch: Zap O Hell
(Suckerpunch)
Carols From The Canyon: Chemical Sound Recordings CHEMLP1
Toronto
Christopher Dignan: guitar, vocals
Cindy Beattie: bass
Sean Dignan: drums
Produced by Suckerpunch, 1994
Recorded and mixed by Daryl Smith and Alistair Miller at Chemical Sound recordings, Toronto
Mastered by Brett Zilahi at F-X Studios, Toronto

My copy is 978/1000, delivered (sealed) the other day by none other than Sean Dignan, a 334578  listener.

I’ve got a 45 with The Heatseekers on one side and The Shuttlecocks on the other, a short lived project that Sean Dignam was involved with after the demise of Suckerpunch. The two songs by The Heatseekers on side A were the only ones I could find by them so I was overjoyed to meet Sean and receive my numbered copy of Suckerpunch’s 1994 album, recorded in mono and released on vinyl.

6.   Sugarloaf: Things Gonna Change Some
(Corbetta / Dorn / Raymond / Webber)
Sugarloaf: Liberty Records LST-7640
Denver Colorado
Jerry Corbetta: organ, piano, clavichord, vocals
Bob Webber: guitar, vocals
Bob Raymond: bass
Myron Pollock: drums
Veeder van Dorn -vocals
Produced by Frank Slay and JC Phillips, 1970
Recorded by Paul Buff at Original Sound Studios, Hollywood, California

Known almost entirely for Green Eyed Lady, Sugarloaf were a really good, original sounding band. Jerry Corbetta and Bob Webber played together in the Denver-based band The Moonrakers in the mid 1960s. In late 1968, Corbetta and Webber formed a new band they called Chocolate Hair. Chocolate Hair signed to Liberty Records. Just before their album's release, the legal department at Liberty suggested the name Chocolate Hair might be taken as having racist overtones so the band agreed to change their name to Sugarloaf, the name of a mountain outside of Boulder, Colorado, where Bob Webber lived. The single Green Eyed Lady peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard chart in October 1970

7.   Plaid: Do Matter
(Plaid)
The Digging Remedy: Warp Records - LP277B

Ten Years Of Music: Fiddlefire Records MKC 2070
Toronto ON
Chris McKhool: violin
Kevin Laliberté: flamenco guitar
Eddie Paton: guitar
Drew Birston: bass
Rosendo León: drums
Produced by Chris McKhool, 2017
Edited for Vinyl by John “Beetle” Bailey at The Drive Shed Recording Studios, Toronto
Mastered by Peter Letros at Wreckhouse Mastering and Paul Gold at Salt Masterin

Violinist Chris McKhool was putting out some pretty interesting solo albums in the early 2000s when he met up with flamenco jazz guitarist Kevin Laliberté and that’s when everything began to click. Fusing their wild sounds with world music, they formed the basis of The Sultans of String. Since then they’ve released several well received albums that have generated a lot of interest. What a treat to finally hear them on vinyl!! It’s a totally different experience. Ten Years of Music is a compilation album of earlier works but it sure works to my liking.

Ricky Dean Zehringer b. August 5, 1947  Fort Recovery, Ohio

Zehringer and his brother Randy were members of The McCoys who had some hits like Hang On Sloopy, Fever and Come On Let’s Go. I got to see them open up for some big act at Maple Leaf Gardens. In the early 1970s Zehringer was in Johnny Winter’s band. He was associated with some great acts:  Edgar Winter,  Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Ringo Starr's 11th All-Starr Band

Note: not the same Lavender Hill Mob from Fresno California who broke up in 1967. It’s hard to find relevant info on these guys! What I do know is they were from Montreal and I’ve got both of their albums. They were a bit commercial and obviously had a lot of money thrown their way since the albums were also released across the USA.

Bruce Cockburn: charango, dulcimer, vocal

Mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, NYC

Great to have Colin Linden back producing Cockburn again. Using the Rodeo King’s rhythm section, the album showcases a spiritual exposure of where they’re at today. From one of Canada’s best poet songwriters. And it was released on vinyl!

Which is too bad! So don’t miss out; order yours today online from Bandcamp.

Proof that I never plug anyone!

6.   Fraser & DeBolt: Preserve Me In Alcohol
(Allan Fraser)

Allan Fraser: guitar, vocal
Daisy DeBolt: harmonica, vocal
Song Produced by Holger Petersen, 1974
LP Produced by Allan Fraser & James Lindbloom, 2015

Donna Marie DeBolt b. Winnipeg MB July 19, 1945 / d. Oct 4, 2011 Toronto (66)
Allan Hugh Fraser born 21 July 1948 in St. Stephen, New Brunswick

Alan Fraser and Daisy DeBolt first got together around 1969 as a folk duo, touring the US college circuit. They came to the attention of Columbia Records and, with the help of Hamitonian Ian Guenther (Lighthouse and producer of a Barbara Allen dancercise record) recorded a seminal LP for Columbia in 1971. After an unsuccessful second album, things fell apart for them but there was enough great, mostly original material for many albums to come. Some of the recordings from early gigs were eventually compiled and released on this Roaratorio double album in 2015. This is one of ‘em.

7.   Jon Brooks: Safer Days
(Jon Brooks)
Moth Nor Rust: Fallen Tree Records  Test Pressing
Toronto ON
Jon Brooks: guitar, vocal
Joe Ernewein: electric guitar
John Showman: violin
Vivienne Wilder: double bass, vocals
Produced by Jason LaPrade and Neil Cruickshank, 2019

Only five of these records were ever made coz Jon gave me one of his test pressings. So mine doesn’t have a cover; it just sits in a white inner-sleave. This is a redo of his excellent 2009 CD of the same name. The running order is different on the new LP and a couple of songs were changed and it sounds amazing. He just thought that it would be a cool thing to update it.

RIP Don Heffington 1950 - 2021
