Massapequa, NY

Brian Setzer: guitar, vocals
Slim Jim Phantom: drums
Lee Rocker: bass
Produced by Dave Edmunds, 1989

Mastered at Capitol Records Studios, Los Angeles by Wally Traugott

Wally Edward Traugot b. Kitchener ON September 11, 1934 - December 3, 2010

Mastering Engineer Wally Traugott, who retired from Capitol Studios in 1996. Wally mastered some of the greatest albums of the 20th Century, which included, Georg Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, The Plastic Ono Band, RINGO, Band On The Run, The Beatles At Hollywood Bowl, as well as albums by Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand, Willie Nelson...etc.

Not only that, but at one time he was the highest paid violinist in Canada ('50's'ish), being the fiddle player on The Tommy Hunter Show, and played with Tommy at Ryman Auditorium on The Grand Ole Opry radio broadcast. Eventually, Wally became disenchanted with the Canadian country music scene and relocated to California where he gave up his fiddle and went to work for Capitol Records as a big time engineer.

They are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, and are Grammy Award and multiple gold record award-winning artists. Except for Aretha Franklin, no soul act during Sam & Dave's Stax years (1965–1968) had more consistent R&B chart success, including 10 consecutive top 20 singles and 3 consecutive top 10 LPs.

Robbie Lane And The Disciples received their big break in December 1963 when Ronnie Hawkins hired them as insurance for the soon to be defecting Hawks (who indeed did quit Hawkins' side to become The Band). Hawkins would have the Disciples playing upstairs at the Hawks' Nest while the Hawks themselves played downstairs at the Le Coq d'Or with Hawkins himself running sets between the two floors.

They were also host band for CTV-TV's 1967 teen show, 'It's Happening', which was also the name of their first and only album. Producer, Stan Klees, was one of the brains behind establishing, what is now The Juno Awards; he called them The Maple Leaf Awards.

Formed by students from the Ontario College of Art, they played their first gig opening for Talking Heads in January 1977. Their cover of ‘Wild in the Streets’ sound track song, “Shape of Things To Come” (by Max Frost & The Troopers) was written by the Brill Building’s songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil "On Broadway" "Only in America" "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "We Gotta Get out of This Place".

Frederick Anthony Picariello Jr. (born December 4, 1936 Revere Mass)

Freddy grew up listening to the rhythm and blues music of Big Joe Turner, Buddy Johnson and others on the radio, and learned to play guitar. Inspired musically by Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Little Richard, he formed his own group, Freddy Karmon & the Hurricanes, which became increasingly popular in the Boston area. His record deal with Swan Records resulted in the company president, Bernie Binnick, suggesting Freddy's new stage name Freddy Cannon.

“Action” was the theme song of daily Dick Clark's TV show out of California called “Where the Action Is”. Cannon made his recording debut as a singer in 1958, caught up in the rock ‘n roll fever of the time. His third record,  "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans", became a huge hit. In 1962 he had another big hit with Palisades Park.

One hit wonders! After recording Little Girl for a small regional label, Hush Records, Bell Records picked up the song and it reached the Billboard top ten. Because of that, Bell Records offered them an album deal. The album was recorded in three weeks and the band then embarked on a nationwide tour supporting among others, Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Young Rascals, and The Yardbirds.

Released 28 October 1966

About session men – a Ray Davies interview with Creem Magazine:

“I remember (Jimmy) Page coming to one of our sessions when we were recording "All Day And All Of The Night". We had to record that song at 10 o'clock in the morning because we had a gig that night. It was done in three hours. Page was doing a session in the other studio, and he came in to hear Dave's solo, and he laughed and he snickered. And now he says that he played it! So I think he's an asshole, and he can put all the curses he wants on me because I know I'm right and he's wrong. Dave is a great guitar player. He's got his limitations, but he's never been given justice for doing that. He made that when he was 16-years-old. He created a sound, and after that came Jimi Hendrix and all the fuzz boxes.

According to producer, Shel Talmy: So far as I know Jimmy's never claimed to have performed the solo on 'You Really Got Me', but his involvement as a rhythm guitarist on that session and others is irrefutable. I seriously doubt The Kink's song 'Session Man' is a direct reference to Jimmy Page, rather it is a reference to session musicians in general

(S Marriot / R Lane)
Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake: Daffodil Records Canada SBA 16015
London UK

Steve Marriott: lead, harmony, vocals, guitars, harmonica Hammond organ

Recorded by Glyn Johns at Olympic Studios, London; Trident Studios, London

Released on 24 May 1968, the LP peaked at number one on the UK Album Charts on 29 June, where it remained for a total of six weeks. The packaging was a parody of Ogden's Nut-brown Flake, a brand of tobacco that was produced in Liverpool from 1899 onwards by Thomas Ogden. The album was originally released on vinyl in a circular novelty package of a metal replica of a giant tobacco tin. This proved too expensive and not successful as the tins tended to roll off of shelves and it was quickly followed by a paper replica with a gatefold cover.

Kooper's first professional work was as a 14-year-old guitarist in the Royal Teens. In 1960, he teamed up with songwriters Bob Brass and Irwin Levine to write and record demos for Sea-Lark Music Publishing. The trio's biggest hits were "This Diamond Ring", recorded by Gary Lewis and the Playboys. When he was 21, Kooper moved to Manhattan's Greenwich Village.

He performed with Bob Dylan in concert in 1965, including playing Hammond organ with Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival, and in the recording studio in 1965 and 1966. Kooper also played the Hammond organ riffs on Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone". It was in those recording sessions that Kooper met and befriended Mike Bloomfield,

Kooper joined the Blues Project as their keyboardist in 1965; he left the band shortly before their gig at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. He formed Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1967, leaving due to creative differences in 1968, after the release of the group's first album. He recorded Super Session with Bloomfield and Stills in 1968. Hemsworth was a mentor to the McGarrigle sisters. From his book of songs published in 1990:

“In 1949 when Wade was working for Ontario Hydro he went up north with a survey party. The Hydro was then planning to build a dam on the Little Abitibi River which flows north towards James Bay. The surveyors, like most people who visit the Ontario northland in summer, found themselves pestered by black flies, and the experience inspired Hemsworth to write this song. Since then it has become quite popular with various folk singers and others in Canada and the United States.”

I first heard the song when I was about ten or eleven at summer camp. A coun cillor sung it by the campfire.
