A spinoff of Three Souls in My Mind, formed in 1968. The group is regarded as influential in the development of Mexican rock music. As 3 Souls released 15 lps by 1985. Lora played bass. Started off singing in English but changed to Spanish after Mexicos Woodstock called Festival de Av?aro 1971

Mexico had an anti-hippie anit-longhair policy (especially at the border). They banned Hair after only 1 performance and deported many progressive musicians. To get around holding the Festival, they billed it as a racing car event (sorta like Strawberry Fields the year before). Est 500,000 attended. 3 Souls were the last to play.

Alex Lora became the first Mexican rock band to have a Gold certified record with their album "Simplemente" The 2008 Lonely Planet guide to Mexico calls El Tri "the grandfathers of Mexican rock." 2006's Rock en Espana characterizes them as "Mexico's quintessential working-class rock outfit." They have been described in press as "Mexico's answer to the Rolling Stones": "Ancient, raunchy, but still hugely popular.

I thought it prudent to segue out of obits with this pensive recording, dedicated to the late Marvin Gaye, by a Toronto based bad that originally came to life as Na Cabarfeidh. Their second album was called Rare Air and confused a lot of people into thinking that Rare Air was actually the name of the band so they became Rare Air. Lead by a couple of bagpipers, they employed funk bass and the incredible percussion of Trevor Ferrier to develop their signature sound. They were one of the first Canadian ‘folk’ bands signed to the prestigious American label Green Linnet Records. They released six unique albums of funky pipe songs.

Sakamoto’s international breakthrough came in 1963 during a visit to Japan by Louis Benjamin, an executive of British record company Pye Records. After hearing the song several times, Benjamin decided to bring a recording of it back to England. Due to concerns that the title would be too hard for English-speakers to pronounce or remember, the song was renamed "Sukiyaki", after the Japanese cooked beef dish familiar to the English. The new title was intended to sound both catchy and distinctive in Japanese, but other than the language, it had no actual connection to the lyrics of the song.

Produced by Mike Scott & Jamie Nolan, 1983
Recorded at Fiesta Studios, Toronto

Mike Scott took to the electric Hawaiian guitar in the late 1940s. He was born in Wiltshire, England and learned to play properly before emigrating to Toronto in 1954. Within days of his arrival he joined the musicians’ union and was out working with local bands. He was given the nickname Malihini ...a Hawaiian word meaning 'a newcomer' to Hawaii. His Hawaiianaires were frequent musical guests at the infamous Bali Hai room in the Ports of Call restaurant where CHUM DJ’s used to hang out.

This album claims that it was recorded before a live audience, but the shoddy production shows how the audience was dubbed in before and after every song.
