Baekeland was a CIUT alumni, having produced the Twisting Postman and A Few Acres Of Snow on CIUT. Before that he was a prominent volunteer at Calgary’s CJSW where he saved the radio station during a time of crisis. He performed in Lost and Profound and several other bands. While at CIUT he met the love of his life, Jen Norfolk who was another CIUT show host; they got married and moved back to Calgary. He was a great friend and we miss him. He died of cancer at the age of 60.

The Staccatos were eventually revamped and renamed Five Man Electrical Band. Back in the good old days of the early Beatles era, they were Ottawa's most commercially successful band. Sandy Gardner, who produced them, did one of the four front cover write-ups of Beatlemania, the Beatles' second album. And that's no mistake: it was on the front cover.

David Pritchard was born in the UK and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He grew up in Willowdale (Toronto) where he began his own pirate radio station he called CBIG. Began his official radio career on CHUM FM and was the first Canadian artist signed to the Island Records label.

Like most people, I first heard Kansas City after The Beatles released it in 1965 in Canada on Beatles VI. It was the first song on side A. It was written by Leiber and Stoller in 1952 when they were only 19. Little Richard recorded it in 1956. Wilbert Harrison’s recording in 1959. Harrison died of a stroke in 1994.

This Toronto band from the late 1960s released one impossible to find album, broke up and recorded another one twenty years later in 1989. They put out a third album in 1996. Having formed during their time at Toronto Metropolitan University in the late 1960s, their final release was called ‘The Ryerson Tapes’ made at the then Ryerson College. It came out in 2004.

This band originally included Robert Plant and John Bohnam. After they left to play with Jimmy Page, the band broke up but got back together again 10 years later, releasing two albums. In 2010, Robert Plant used the group as his touring band, still called Band of Joy.

A song about the Cobalt Fire of 1977 that was started by burning cigarette butts behind a general store by roofers on Victoria Day. The ensuing fire burned most of the town; this recording came out later that same year. Esa lives currently in Kelowna BC and Jon is now in Newmarket ON. Both were born in Lapland, Finland and emigrated to Kirkland Lake around 1956. They got involved with rock n’ roll bands in the ‘60s.

It’s All Meat originally surfaced as The Underground in Toronto, releasing one single bfore changing their name. Pity in the City never made it to disc but was released on this CD of their first and only album. Jed MacKay is a producter for TV Ontario. Rick Aston died quite young. Rick McKim is still musically active. Wayne Rowarth has been living in the USA for the past 35 years and still performs.

A Progressive rock band formed in England in 1969. Billboard called them “unquestionably the best of the so-called jazz-rock bands of the time. From 1970 – 75 produced eight studio albums and did 17 tours of Europe, the US and Canada.

Youngest son of a 10 kids family of Russian Jewish immigrants. Made ish name during the depression playing at parties through by the rich. Played for dignitaries and visiting monarchs at the White House inaugural balls. His most memorable party was playing for Frank Zappa in 1974.

This song resulted after a miscommunication between band members. The studio was booked but only Keith Moon and John Entwistle showed up so they wrote this song and recorded it. Pete Townsend came in a few days later and laid down the guitar track. No Roger Daltrey on this track.
