Fraser Loveman
b. Feb 22, 1945, St Catherines ON  / d. April 6, 2018 St Catherines ON (73)

The band started in 1965 and went through several lead singers as they changed from pop to psychedelic styles. Finally they brought in Fraser Loveman, former singer of another St Catherines band, The British Modbeats. However they only managed to produce this one (collector’s item) 45.

Village STOP were known for playing in the nude, bodies painted in psychedelic glow-in-the-dark, but had to wear clothes when asked to appear on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. I’m not so sure that Fraser Loveman ever played in the nude with them.

A very cool song that goes back to the 19th Century. It seems to lead us back to Johnny Burke (1851 – 1930) who composed many songs about Newfoundland. This song tells the tale of a grocer’s daughter. The vocals are shared by three of Newfoundlands most popular musicians: Ron Hynes, Jim Payne and John White to each take a verse and all join in on the chorus. It was produceed by Bell Island radio’s CEO, Kelly Russell on his own records label, Pigeon Inlet.

Robert David Edwards
b. Nov 24, 1948 in Scarborough, ON  / d. South Lake Hospital,Newmarket on Sept 15, 2021 (72)

“I was on with Tommy Hunter, Front Page Challenge, and the Friendly Giant, I was Rusty,” he said. “During that time I got out with a few musicians like Wayne Newton, Kenny Rodgers, Bobby Vinton, Sonny an Cher and Lawrence Welk,” he said. “I also had the chance to work with Patsy Cline and Chet Atkins.”

Most likely the most recorded Canadian musician of all times! Super guitarist, Edwards turned professional when he was still in his mid-teens. By the time he was 21 he had amassed a great portfolio of recorded works, playing on recordings, jingles and in television studio bands. has been a featured guitarist with Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Henry Mancini, Anne Murray, Paul Anka, and Kenny Rogers. He’s been credited with having performed on over 1000 TV shows and many motion pictures. Truly one of the unsung heroes of Canadian recorded music. His personal recorded output is minimal so enjoy.

His little studio, originally in his mother's basement, put Hamilton, Ontario on the map. Brian Eno worked there. U2's Adam Clayton played bass on this track! Ben Mink is one of the few people to ever share a songwriting credit with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In 1997, Mink and kd lang were credited as being songwriters on the Stone’s single “Anybody Seen My Baby”. Mink and Lang were given credit before the song was released after the Stones realized aht the chorus was very similar to kd lang’s and Ben Mink’s composition “Constant Craving, created in 1992.
