We begin the show today with some excellent guitar playing by Fred Keeler.
Freddie died June 14, 2020. He began his professional career with Ronnie
Hawkins band The Shays who, like so many other Hawkins alumni, went out on
their own in 1963. Their new lead singer was David Clayton Thomas. The Shays
released several singles and one album before calling it a day. He then joined
The Majestics for a couple of years before applying to be the lead guitarist
for Toronto band The Sparrow who were, at that time, transforming into Steppenwolf.
In 1975 he was a founding member of Triumph but left after the release of
their first album to be replaced by Rik Emmett. Having lost his hearing Freddie
stopped playing and apparently became reclusive for the last few years of
his life.

An album dedicated to the late Jimi Hendrix! And it sounds it.
A power trio from Montreal doing a great job of sounding just like Hendrix.
This is from their first raw release when their influences were showing the
most. They did go on to have a successful career once they got their own
voice. Marino is an incredible guitar player.

Benjamin David Goodman
b. May 30, 1909 Chicago / d. June 13, 1986 (77) NYC
Goodman made his professional debut in 1921 at the Central Park
Theater on the West Side of Chicago. At fourteen he became a member of the
musicians' union and worked in a band featuring Bix Beiderbecke. Two years
later he joined the Ben Pollack Orchestra and made his first recordings in
1926. Goodman then moved to New York and became a session musician for radio,
Broadway musicals, and in studios. He formed his own bands and had many top
ten hits. He hired the best musicians he could find in New York and became
a definitive figure of the Big Band Era.
Issued in 1950, this was the first ever issued double album and one of the
first albums to sell over a million copies. It was also sold in a set of
nine 45 rpm records in the same year by Columbia.

replaced by Marky Ramone (aka Marc Bell).
10. The Ramones: Go Mental

Road To Ruin: Sire Records

Joey Ramone: lead vocal
Johnny Ramone: guitar
Dee Dee Ramone: bass
Marky Ramone: drums

Recorded by Ed Stasium and Ray Janos
Mastered by Greg Calbi
The fourth album by The Ramones featured their new drummer, Marky Ramone
who replaced Tommy who helped produced this album. A lot of their core fans
turned on them claiming that The Ramones were moving away from punk, trying
to be more commercially viable. While their first two albums were recorded
in just hours, the Ramones spent an entire summer trying to get this one
out. So much for spontaneity!

One of the first punk bands in Canada, they formed around 1975. They
laid down a bunch of tracks, including The Screaming Fist (their first single)
in 1977, most of it unreleased until the compilation album, A Taste of Honey
was released in 1994 on CD. (They did record and release one album during
their years of operation: 1983s Saturday Night / Sunday Morning which was
recorded live at Larry’s Hideaway in Toronto.

London UK
Barry Andrews, organ
Robert Fripp, guitar
Sara Lee, bass
Johnny Toobad, drums

Interestingly, my copy of this album has the wrong label on side one.
It reads 'Difficult to Cure' by Rainbow with the serial PD 1-6316 - one number
before League of Gentlemen, the label for side two. All the songs on the
record though are by the League.

A Johnny Cash song originally released as the B-side to the single release
"I Walk the Line" in 1956 on Sun Records out of Memphis. Cash later had another
hit after it was re-released in 1969 with a dubbed in audience. Ry
Cooder recorded for his eleventh studio album entitled 'Get Rhythm', released
in November 1987. Another great example of how country and rock n’ roll came
from essentially the same place: Sun Studios in Memphis.

the Wrecking Crew and songwriters PF Sloan and Steve Barri, the Youngbloods
had several major hit songs before disbanding in 1971. Young went back to
being a solo performer and actually dropped out of music in 2012 after he
suffered being infected with Lyme Disease. He passed away from general causes

The Du-Cats were awarded the Stompin’ Tom Award at the 2010 East Coast
Music Awards. The group ventured down to the New England States to
record in 1965 and turned down a contract with Smash Records in the 1960s.
Still, they were one of the first Newfoundland and Labrador rock bands to
make records. Lead guitarist Lew Skinner is still active, playing rock in
St. John’s, most recently with a band called Generations.
Playing in the States in the mid 1960s The Du-Cats were paired up with Bill
Haley. "Bill Haley, he didn't even have a cent when we met him," said Jim
Crewe. "He wasn't making any money. He was going to come to Newfoundland
and spend a summer with us.
"We were planning to come back and spend July and August back here. At that
time, he wasn't getting any work in the U.S., so he said he'd come down here
and we'd play the theatres. I remember how old he was at the time - 39, going
on 40. We thought - he's old!"
