”I’ve Got Everything I Need (Almost)” may sound like the kind of song that might have come out of Memphis or New Orleans, but actually it’s an example of the Canadian influences that Dan Aykroyd brought to the Blues Brothers. It was written by Don Walsh, lead guitarist of Toronto’s Downchild Blues Band and was used in the Blues Brothers film which I'll play later. Just to appear in such a movie, the song has generated a lot of income for Don Walsh.

When I first heard these songs in 1968, it struck me as reflective of what was going on around us. 50 years later, it sounds even more ominous. He later went to New York City and worked with Dr. John, David Lindley, Peter Rowan, Ry Cooder and Bob Dylan. He appeared on Cooder's two incredible albums Chicken Skin albums, Chicken Skin Music as well as the Chicken Skin Revue Live album called Show Time. He was a guest musician on the Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge album.

I was asked to play washboard and triangle for them several times. We did the Montreal 350th anniversary concert before 10,000 people in a free concert downtown Montreal on a bill with Blue Rodeo. We also did the Governor General’s Tea Party for Canada Day at Rideau Hall, and they flew me in to Montreal to record and appear in their video. My washboard was double tracked for this album.

Peter Jellard sings the Rolling Pin. He began learning Cajun and Zydeco music of Louisiana while in France in the mid-1980s. As a member of the Grievous Angels, he brought Louisiana music into their repertoire. In 1987 he began forming his own Cajun band, the Cajun Ramblers (which I was a part of) which morphed into the blackflies during the mid-1990s. He was then asked to join Swamperella. Peter was also friends with Danielle Martineau who was also playing accordion in a Quebec based Cajun band called Joséphine. As far as I can tell, these were the only real, true to nature Cajun bands in Canada.
