I consider Timmins to be my home town (although I've lived in Toronto nearly all my life). From the early days of the Porcupine gold mining camp established just 103 years ago, my family has been there for all but one of them. It's the place where Stompin' Tom began his career in ernest by playing to the crowds of the Maple Leaf Hotel. Shania Twain, Roy Thompson - 1st Baron of Fleet, gold medal olympian Kathy Kreiner, Cape Breton fiddler Buddy MacMaster, MP Charlie Angus, singer Michelle Rumball, prospectors Benny Hollinger & Sandy MacIntyre, Frank & Peter Mahovlich, Allan Stanley, Lino Bozzer, CFCL's Hilltop Rendezvouz, Henry Kelneck playing dances at The Pav. So here's to the city of Timmins in the heart of the Porcupine!!
