Four women from upstate New York. I got to see them perform at Owen Sound’s Summerfolk Festival in 1990. On stage the four of them huddled as closely to one another as humanly possible with their instruments and cement a sound so tight that it made even my wooden feet dance to their music. And that’s sayin’ something! Pole Cat Blues is a traditional piece from their cassette EP which I’ve nearly worn out.

Sinfield learned to play the guitar. He wrote poetry beginning in the mid 1960s and made a living on market stalls selling handmade kites, lampshades, paintings and customized clothing. Sinfield spent a number of years drifting around Morocco and Spain before returning to England. In 1967, he formed the Creation, a band he said he envisioned as a cross between Donovan and the Who. One of the members, Ian McDonald, convinced Sinfield to switch from singer/guitarist to lyricist.
In 1968 Sinfield and McDonald started hanging out with Giles, Giles and Fripp. Sinfield dreamed up the name King Crimson. After four Crimson albums he was hired by Emmerson Lake and Palmer whom he worked for three years during which time he recorded his fist and only solo album, Still.
Later in his career, he adapted his songwriting to better suit pop music, and wrote a number of successful songs for artists such as Celine Dion, Cher, Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer.
